Chunky leg warmers

After I was done with the Christmas presents, I decided to make something for myself, and what better than another pair of leg warmers. I love leg warmers, I hate wearing thick socks, they make my feet feel to trapped, so leg warmers are perfect, and plus they look really good poking out over the top of my snow boots.
When I was looking for a pattern for these, I decided that I wanted to have stirrups, but when I made them I realised that when making such chunky leg warmers, stirrups really aren't such a good idea, they don't feel as comfortable under my feet when in my shoes. So usually I just wear them pulled up. Also another thing i'm not 100% happy with is that extra bit with the button, it just seems to flop down, so i'll probably take it off and just put the button directly on to the leg warmer. Once i've done that, i'll love them completely, I love the colours they're so Autumny.

The run up to Christmas

My partner and I have been trying to live a minimalistic life, trying not to consume to many things, we shop for a lot of things in the second hand shops. After I had been knitting for a while we decided that we would try to make a lot of stuff we needed. So Christmas was coming up and I decided, what better presents to give than lovingly homemade gifts. I've decided to lump all of them together in one post as I knitted them all over the place and sometimes had about 4 different things on the go at the same time, and a lot of them are the same anyway.

So I set out making a list of everyone I wanted to make something for, it ended up with 24 people on it!! This was back in August, as I was taking a trip to my English home I decided to order the wool online to England and bring it back in my suitcase as it would be much much cheaper that way. One thing I didn't consider was how much wool that would be, I had it coming out of my ears on the plane ride home it was so much. So first hurdle cleared, it was September and I had all of my wool ready, now to start knitting. I was finding it hard to decide on what things people would actually appreciate, because although some would love homemade items, others would find them naff compared with maybe a new computer game from a shop, this is the problem nowadays, when people only want really expensive things and can't appreciate the finer things in life that don't cost so much, but were made with love and with the individual in mind.

First up are the hats, I found this really simple pattern and it was done as a flat piece, which I find quicker, although I do like knitting on the round. I made 10 hats in total but they're all different, and I found out that changing needle sizes changes the shape, probably a simple thing, but I hadn't thought of it before.

I made two of this hat

There are two other hats, but I don't seem to have taken any picture of them for some reason, but they're just a different colour variation of the simple beanie.

I made two pairs of mittens, one for my Mum and the other for my Mother in law.

I made these cute little slipper boots for my boyfriends niece. They don't carpet's here in Sweden and I didn't want them to be slippery, so I bought some puffy paint pens to do the design on the bottom.

And my last knitted item's were a small scarf and hat for my sisters teddy bear Tilly.

But before putting them on her bear, she thought the cat might like a try lol

I didn't just knit I also made some salt dough tree decorations. And fridge magnets for those that don't have a tree up at Christmas.
